Inner Vision & The Art Of Seeing
Learning to express ourselves as visual artists requires that we engage the
world with an open mind and heart, and with the unrestrained curiosity of a child.
THE ART OF SEEING
FOR YEARS NOW I’ve said that each good photograph needs three essential elements: 1) good subject 2) good lighting 3) good composition. It’s a simple formula, but it is one that has served me well.
But now let us talk about what makes a truly unique and compelling photograph. It needs a “little sprinkle of pixie dust”. By that I mean that the little bit of magic that separates a good photograph from a great one. Here is the secret: you need to see the image in your mind before you reach for your camera.
I call this the ART OF SEEING. It’s essentially being able to take that intuitive leap that goes beyond a literal translation of the scene or subject. It’s more than inventorying every square inch of real estate with your camera’s motor drive. It’s about seeing the picture within the picture. I do this by trying to give each and every situation an honest evaluation. Next, I try to delve beyond the obvious. I haven’t yet met a camera that can make me a better photographer. The ART OF SEEING - that’s the the big secret.
My courses teach you all the nuts and bolts of getting better photos. But they are more about observation, keen awareness, and vivid imagination. The emphasis will be on creating a personal and evocative statement that is uniquely yours.
Break out of your creative rut. Learn to see, feel and react to the world around you. That’s your INNER VISION. I guarantee your photos will improve.
